Ailsa Craig heirloom onions are by far the largest onions you can grow in a short growing season. The key is to plant Ailsa Craig onions early and keep them growing throughout the season. If you are looking for a humongous variety with which to win county fairs this is the one for you.
Constantly add nitrogen to these beautiful onion plants to make them the onion giants. Unbeatable when fresh for making caramelized onions. Ailsa Craig onions do not store overly well, so enjoy them soon after harvesting. Also known as the Kelsae Sweet Giant onions.
Onion bulbs in excess of 3 pounds are possible, but the real beauty of this variety is the quality. Color is a snow white, centers are bull’s eye single, tops are vigorous, and the flavor is very sweet.
