Luffa or Loofah gourd is a fast growing and long season vine that can climb up to 15 feet. You may eat the luffa when its less than 7 inches , the taste is like a cucumber when eaten.

This rare type of gourd is known mainly for its amazing sponge. After allowing the loofah to dry and turns brown peel the outside off and you have an amazing sponge. Wash well with garden hose and allow to dry. These useful sponges are mainly used for exfoliating the skin in baths, and used as dish scrubbers because of its sponge like fibers.

Loofah flowers are  beautiful with bright yellow that reach across your hand. You might even find that the flowers are so abundant it covers the length of the plant which grows 20 ft or more. Wonderful pollinators including humming birds, and bees love these flowers which make it one of the more striking and beautiful plants to grow.

Loofahs are heavy feeders and love water and warmth.
